Dr. Kassel founded SciAnalytical Strategies in 2013, a bioanalytical, biomarker discovery and consulting firm that serves the pharmaceutical, biotechnology and clinical industries.
Previously, Dr. Kassel served as Vice President of Analytical Sciences and DMPK at Takeda (2005-2012). There, he led teams in the areas of high throughput analysis, mass directed purification, DMPK and biomarker discovery and development. He also led several discovery research projects for Takeda, most notably an insulin-sparing oral therapy for Type 1 diabetes. Dr. Kassel played a key role, was awarded the Takeda Global award in 2008, for his work on Alogliptin, marketed in Japan and the U.S. for the treatment of Type 2 diabetes. He was also an invited participant in the Takeda Leadership Institute—the most prestigious leadership program within Takeda. Dr. Kassel received his PhD from Michigan State University and was awarded an NIH NRSA fellowship at Harvard University. He has authored over 70 peer-reviewed manuscripts and more than 100 abstracts, taught numerous short courses and workshops on mass spectrometry and drug discovery.
